Dr. Rick Marshall, scienziato di dubbia reputazione, viene risucchiato in un vortice spazio-temporale e 'risputato' indietro nel tempo. Ora però Marshall non ha armi, e dispone di pochissime risorse sia fisiche che intellettuali per sopravvivere in un universo popolato da dinosauri predatori e da creature fantastiche. Al suo fianco, in questa incredibile avventura, vengono risucchiati anche la sua brillante assistente Holly e un ultraconservatore esperto di tecniche di sopravvivenza di nome Will. Inseguito da T. rex e perseguitato da rettili lenti quanto inesorabili, chiamati Sleestaks, Marshall, Will e Holly dovranno fidarsi del loro unico alleato, un primate di nome Chaka, che li aiuterà ad abbandonare l'ibrida dimensione in cui sono capitati.
