Trama:
Quando Josey Aimes torna nel nord Minnesota dopo il fallimento del suo matrimonio, ha bisogno di un buon lavoro. Incoraggiata dall'amica Glory, una delle poche donne in questo settore, Josey entra in miniera. Quando Josey protesta contro il trattamento che lei e le sue compagne di lavoro subiscono, incontra la resistenza non solo di chi comanda, ma anche della comunità intera che non vuole ascoltare la verità, dei suoi genitori e delle sue stesse colleghe, timorose che le cose peggiorino.
